Greg Russell

Two time BBC Radio 2 Folk award winner Greg Russell is perhaps best known for his work with multi-instrumentalist, Ciaran Algar. A partnership which has produced three studio records and toured extensively in the UK, Denmark, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

Possessed of a voice with “maturity and emotion that belies his tender years” (Mark Radcliffe) Greg has established himself as one of the most significant players on the UK folk scene. As well as touring with The Transports and Ciaran Algar, Greg has spent two years in Nancy Kerr’s Sweet Visitor Band playing guitars. Moreover, in 2016 he created Shake the Chains, a unique celebration of old and new protest songs, a show which included Peggy Seeger, Martin Simpson and many more and toured to great acclaim in February 2017.

Singing a mixture of original and traditional song in 2017, Greg released his debut solo album, Inclined to be Red, declared ‘a powerful statement’ (Acoustic), ‘excellent’ (R2 Magazine), ‘a splendid thing’ (Maverick) and ‘convincingly individual’ (fRoots).
